Feather care: Dust bathing

Feathers are essential to a bird’s life, tha’s why they must keep them in good condition and take a good deal of time to do so. One of the techniques is dust bathing.. It is not a substitute for water bathing and birds can do both. Though it is not reported for all the species, we have found some

Dust bathing is believed to control parasites and/or clean oil stains on the feathers. The bird squats or lies down, wriggles, rolls, fluffs its feathers and beats its wings in the dust to form a cloud to cover its body. To remove it it shakes violently.
