Black-necked Swan - Cygnus melancoryphus

Habitat: Ponds and marshes


Like the other waterbirds the Black-necked Swan disappeared from the reserve when the ponds got dried. From 2008 to 2016 records show these birds flying across the reserve. In 2016 they settled again

Adult swans often carry their chicks on their back. Chicks get on board by anchoring their head to the adult´s body and use their legs to crawl up to a safe place.
