Long-horned bee - Melissoptila sp.

Order Hymenoptera
Family Apidae
This bee belongs into the tribe Eucerini, tribe which has recently been changed into the family Apidae. Eucerini means “true horns” referring to the long antennae they have and the name long-horned bee comes from here.
It is a solitary bee with a low degree of socialization. The Eucerine bees build a raceme-like nest in the soil. They share an access and a main tunnel which branches out into each of the nests built by each bee. Each one of these nests, in turn, is formed with cells and provisioned by the owner. The bees do not work communally as nests are concerned. They take care only of their own.
