his mockingbird perched on top of the tree is trying to attract attention. From this position it performs a display combining sounds and movement. It leaps against the wind to gain height. When the force of the impulse is gone the wind sweeps it backwards and the bird parachutes back onto the perch. It looks around, waits and repeats the process once more. This display lasts only a couple of seconds.
