Order Coleoptera
Family Chrysomelidae
This insect can change its colour when it is bothered or mating. This ability is also believed to be used to mimic lady beetles and thus avoid predators. In 2007 it was discovered that the change of colour is achieved by regulating the fluid under its shell. The fluid runs along grooves scattered in a multilayered structure. When the fluid ascends the insect looks golden, when it descends to the lower layers it loses the metallic properties exposing a red colouring.
