Hideout on the Ducks Pond caught fire

By the end of 2007 work on the hide began. Unlike the other vantage points, this would be a cabin so that the observer should remain hidden without disturbing brids. After a 2007 when plenty of waterbirds bred in the reserve this hide seemed to become a feast for the eyes. But this was not the case. Some months later the construction was interrupted and works were abandoned, and, to make things worse in 2008 the drought emptied the ponds and have remained dried till today, except for a brief period in 2010. The Reserve on fire (February 2011) The reserve on fire once more. Intentional or natural fires are recurrent. Only six months have passed since the last incident. The fire broke out in the afternoon on 4th, February. Fire brigades worked for several hours to control the fire. Nevertheless a fire watch was implemented to prevent eventual fire outbreaks.

Coypu Pond in line with Macacha Güemes was the affected area. Firemen are cooling the area the day after the fire.

The Reserve on fire (January 2009)
Photo taken from the Brasil entrance 24 hours after fire break out. Fire started on the Pampas Grass Path and flames spread towards the river covering some 60 hectares. The severe drought and an inadequate fire extinguishing system hindered firefighting operations. It took four days to extinguish all seats of fire. © Silvia Loiacono	Photo of the area known as the former Covimet Warehouse (January, 24th). These 18 hectares were incorporated to the Reserve under the plan of recovering green public spaces for the city. The area had been filled with soil coming from the construction of the subway.
