The wild Budgerigar is native to Australia which for its size, coulouring and sociability has been domesticated as a pet, that is why, it has expanded all over the world. The are several varieties of budgerigars which differ mostly in colour. They belong into the family Psittaculidae which groups along with Psittacidae and Psittrichasiidae (with no representatives in Argentina) the "true" parrots. In Costanera two different variaties have been spotted.
