| The Pied-billed Grebe is a bird of solitary habits. A skillful diver appears and disappears as if by magic. This species has no sexual dimorphism: male and female have the same appearance. Two diagnostic features of the plumage in breeding season: a black throat and a contrasting black band around the light bill. Some adults were spotted, but there was no sign of courtship behaviour. | Both adults share the task of building the nest. It is built in shallow water inside the feeding territory. It is a mound of vegetal material on the ground or anchored to plants. It is very simple and camouflages well. Nests have direct access to water, where grebes will spend their lives. | |
