Though the name Aedes put us on alert, this mosquito does not transmit illnesses like zika, dengue or chikungunya. It may appear in colder times since it tolerates lower temperatures. 
Only the female bites. She has a long proboscis which pierces the skin to suck blood. It injects saliva which can cause alergic reactions. The male, instead, feeds on nectar and sap and lacks these mouth pieces.
