A very diverse group and many sharing the same activity: preening. With their necks stretched to get to the unreachable feathers to keep them clean and free from bugs. Besides the red shovelers, there are yellow-billed pintails, black-necked swans, a white-winged coot,a brown-hooded gull, a pied-billed grebe and others that cannot be identified
With a swamp eel Synbranchus marmoratus
Very colourful male (top) and very modest female (bottom)
The distinctive pattern on the wings: two white circles
It frequently stands on poles, branches or structures
Typical exhibition repeated once and again. From atop a tree it jumps up to let itself fall in the same place calling the attention by singing.

First coscoroba family of the 2019-2020 season
Simón found the cygnets in his photos of August 28th. Only one cygnet's head is seen clearly arising from in between the plumage of the adult's back. Another head seems to appear on the other adult's back. Since cygnets hatch all at the same time the six cygnets are certainly hidden in the plumage.
Worried about the absence of the spot-flanked gallinule, we find now lots of them. Only in a one tiny space at the Gull Pond we counted 26.
Another clutch coming?

We frequently see the stork flying past or very far in the ponds. Excellent close-ups to get the details. Searching for food, it finds a marbled swamp eel Synbranchus marmoratus

First family of the season. Six cygnets are feeding in the water. Then two on the back of an adult
Liliana did find the swan family on Sunday. Ans a common gallinule one, too

Family with 5 chicks
Nest-building and first broods
On Saturday 31st we paid a visit on the tiger-heron to check if the chicks had already hatched. As we saw the position of the adult we immediately presumed at least one had already. During the week Luciano photographed two chicks. Unluckily this Saturday 7th the chicks were not in sight
We can see no cygnets here. This photo is illustrative to mention that Diego Bastías in fact saw a brood of six during the week. We could not find it
This is the nest thought to have been abandoned. Was it really?
