It is about 6.30 pm and this crepuscular species becomes active to forage. A typical scene of a heron staying frozen to capture a prey. The black-crowned night-heron is an opportunist and feeds on reptiles, fish, amphibians, invertebrates and bird chicks.

Three different stages. Top photo the youngest of the three spoonbills. No pink colouring on wings and feathered head. Dark eye and blackish legs. Middle photo: Still with feathered head and wings with a pink colouring. The eye is red and the legs, reddish. Bottom photo: Juvenile on the right and adult on the left. The adult is characterized by a bald greenish head with nape and auriculars blackish. Crimson on wings is evident. Legs are reddish.
