© J. Simón TagtachianIt is found in flooded soils and at water body banks. It may spread by wind dispersed seeds and by rhizomes, which facilitates the formation of large and dense stands, totorales. In the photo appears the inflorescence a brown flowering spike. In this area three cattail species can be found: Typha latifolia, Typha domingensis and Typha subulata. They cannot be identified with the naked eye.When ponds got dried in 2008 cattails were first to colonize the pond beds forming a large cattail stand. With ponds being refilled cattails are being removed. |
