Wilson's phalarope - feeding

The Wilson´s Phalarope is a migrant bird which flies from the Arctic, where it breeds, to South America. It is observed at the reserve in summer. The phalarope pecks for prey at the surface moving in circles very quickly. It either swims or "marches" energetically, forming a whirlpool which pulls prey to the surface, where it is caught with the bill.
