A token |
This scene lasted two minutes. The caracara flew past us carrying a prey in its feet and landed in a tree where there was another caracara. We thought this would cause trouble, but it was not the case. This was not a prey to be eaten, but a token to be offered. They began to chatter. On some occasions the newly arrived caracara uttered the guttural krrrrrrrrrrok as he threw its head back onto the shoulders, which was answered with cries by the other caracara which then flew away as if not interested in it. The caracara then pecked at the prey not very enthusiastically, dropped it and also left.
